The work-family interface and its correlates : integrating variable and person oriented approaches
2017
The aim of this research was to examine key correlates of the interaction between work and family in one Nordic country, Finland, using a person- oriented and variable-oriented approach. The correlates that were chosen and examined over the course of three studies were job control and work-family boundary management styles, turnover intention, core self-evaluations, and vigor at work. Study I was part of a 2-year longitudinal study which was conducted in two Finnish universities (n = 700); Study II consisted of two samples, one of university employees (University 1, n = 666; University 2, n = 644), and the other of nurses (n = 301) from one healthcare district in Finland; and Study III used…

2021
Pētījuma “Uztvertā stresa, darba-ģimenes konflikta radītāju saistība ar attālinātā darba biežumu” mērķis bija noskaidrot kādas saistības pastāv starp uztverto stresu, darba-ģimenes konfliktu un attālinātā darba biežumu. Pētījuma izlase tika veidota pēc brīvprātības principa. Pētījumā piedalījās viena respondentu grupa, vecumā no 25-50 gadiem. Maternal Employment and Happiness: The Effect of Non-Participation and Part-Time Employment on Mothers' Life Satisfaction
2009
"In contrast to unemployment, the effect of non-participation and parttime employment on subjective well-being has much less frequently been the subject of economists' investigations. In Germany, many women with dependent children are involuntarily out of the labor force or in part-time employment because of family constraints (e.g., due to lack of available and appropriate childcare). Using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) Study, this paper analyzes the impact of involuntary familyrelated non-participation and part-time employment on mothers' life satisfaction. Controlling for unobserved individual fixed effects, I find that both the pecuniary effects (foregone earnings) an…
Conflicto familia-trabajo, autoeficacia y cansancio emocional: un análisis de los efectos longitudinales
2015
Based upon the revised Job Demands and Resources Model (2008) we aim first, to test the relations between work-family conflict and emotional exhaustion across time and second, to determine the role of professional self-efficacy in this relation. A longitudinal study was conducted in two times, with a year of interval in a Spanish Army sample (n = 242). To test the causal relations between work-family and emotional exhaustion three models are tested: normal causal, reversed causal, and causal reciprocal. To test the role of professional self-efficacy in the relation between work-family conflict and emotional exhaustion four alternative models are tested: independence, antecedent, mediation, …

2022
The conflict between work and family demands increased during the COVID-19 pandemic due to changes in lifestyle related to the lockdown. This study examines the associations between work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) with work-specific, family-specific, and well-being-related variables during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results may be used in practice to improve the well-being of employees by adjusting home-based work and family areas of life to dynamic changes during the pandemic. 2015
Work–Family Boundary Management Profiles in Two Finnish Samples : A Person-oriented Approach
2015
Background: The present study aims to identify different work-family boundary management profiles among Finnish employees, and examine how these relate to conflict between work and family or their mutual enrichment. Method: Participants from two samples, one consisting of university staff (n1 = 1,139) and another of nurses (n2 = 271), were asked to respond to an online survey concerning work-family boundary management, work-to-family enrichment, and work-to-family conflict scales. Results: A cluster analysis identified three profiles in both samples: segmentors, integrators and favoring family over work in the university sample, and segmentors, integrators and favoring work over family in t…
Työhyvinvoinnin paradoksit kolmannen sektorin palkkatyössä
2018
In recent years, the institutional environment of Finland’s third sector has undergone major changes. One consequence of that has been paid work becoming more important in organizing third sector activities. However, empirical evidence detailing how much paid work has actually grown and what that means for employee well-being is rare. Therefore, this dissertation studies how paid work has increased in the Finnish third sector while also examining the situation of Finland’s third sector employee well-being in comparison to public and private sector employees. Moreover, the dissertation analyzes the factors that create and reduce third sector employee well-being. Based on Statistic Finland’s …
